This unpaid experience offers companies the opportunity to collaborate with learners for 1-2 hours weekly over a three-month period, with a strong emphasis on guided collaboration and research-focused outcomes. Learners bring foundational skills in employee well-being, compensation strategies, and labor relations, applying these concepts to real-world projects. Through this partnership, learners will rely on employer guidance to navigate organizational contexts and refine solutions tailored to workplace needs. The collaboration focuses on fostering supportive workplace cultures, optimizing performance systems, and ensuring compliance with HR legislation, ensuring mutual value and professional growth.
HR Strategy
HRMT 623
Students will develop a comprehensive HR strategic analysis for an industry partner . HR is core to the achievement of long-term organizational success at every step from effectively implementing business strategies to attracting, developing, evaluating, motivating and retaining talent. This course constitutes part of three elective courses offered for students wishing to achieve their CPHR designation upon fulfilment of their MBA requirements. Talent Management serves as a foundational course for students who wish to understand contemporary organizations, their work culture and the role of HR within the Canadian workplace. Taking an applied approach, students design strategies, policies, procedures, systems and structures required to successfully operate in a business context. Students also examine the key OBHR tools considered as a set of business“best practices” to support and advise managers/leaders and employees to be successful in the contemporary work environment.

Is your business experiencing challenges around strategic positioning in a competitive landscape? MBA students at the University Canada West are prepared to analyze your key business challenges, and provide actionable recommendations. Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools. The teams will apply their diverse entrepreneurial knowledge as students with critical analyses/strategies/design skills to develop ideas in your organization. The teams will complete an analysis, provide strategic recommendations and practical options, and recommend an action plan appropriate to your business situation in consultation with you. As a participating organization, you will provide a specific question, business issue/ challenge, or opportunity that will be the focus of the student team review.
