Project Description: 5 O'Clock App - USA market

Welcome to 5 O'Clock! We are thrilled to present an exciting opportunity for talented MRU Business students to contribute to our innovative project, App Launch - USA. 5 O'Clock is a growing company in Calgary, and is seeking to expand across Canada in July 2025, and then internationally into to the USA January 2026.


Main Goal:

The primary objective of this project is to build a comprehensive business plan for 5 O'Clock, with focus on the US market expansion.

Deliverables

Project Scope and Expectations:

During this project, students will deliver a comprehensive business plan tailored to the 5 O'Clock app, specifically US markets.


Students will act as consultants and deliver the following business plan outline:

  1. Executive Summary (max 250 words)
  2. Company Description
  3. Industry, Target Customer, and Competitive Analysis
  4. Product/Service Plan
  5. Marketing Plan (Can include Social Media Strategy, Campaign Strategy and Communication Strategy)
  6. Operation and Development Plan
  7. Management Team
  8. Critical Risk
  9. Offering
  10. Exit Strategy
  11. Financial Plan


Company Overview:

At 5 O'Clock, we pride ourselves on creative thinking and an inclusive culture. This project offers students an opportunity to gain insights into our company culture, values, and the impactful work we do.


Project Details:

Provide more detailed information about the project, breaking down tasks and milestones. This includes:

  • US Market Analysis - TAM, SAM, SOM. Competitor Analysis. This should be conducted first. Marketing Strategy - Which US markets are most lucrative in terms of the obtainable market and the ease of acquisition. How would you enter these markets? (Marketing Campaign)


  • Operational Timeline - a Gantt Chart of what it would take to enter the market considered most lucrative. This should start with the company being cleared to operate in the US beginning Jan 1 2026, with planning needed to start prior to this (planning time needed up to your discretion, what do you think goes into planning an expansion?).


  • Revenue Generation - How can the company generate revenue? Assume the company has been operating for almost a year in these markets, growing user base and growing the brand image/reputation. We have proven to Restaurant/Bar/Club owners that we can bring in customers. How can we generate revenue from Vendors, and how can we generate revenue from app Users.


Final Deliverables:

  • A comprehensive 10-15 page business plan as per the team of consultants' course curriculum.
